Traveling Through Consciousness

When we are conscious, we can rise from lower to higher levels of awareness. The way we see people, situations, and even ourselves shifts as our level of consciousness changes.

At lower levels — shame, guilt, sadness, fear, anger — our perception is clouded by negativity. At higher levels — courage, willingness, acceptance, love, peace — life appears lighter, more meaningful, and full of opportunity.

As Deepak Chopra says:

"Every person you meet tells you something about yourself. The higher our level of consciousness, the more clearly we can see the value of others."

Perceiving a Person Through Levels of Consciousness

Imagine Sarah observing a homeless man on the corner of a city street. How she sees him depends entirely on her level of consciousness:

  • Shame: He appears dirty, shameful, and disgusting.
  • Guilt: He deserves his condition — a result of laziness.
  • Sadness: She sees him as tragic and lost.
  • Fear: He looks threatening — a danger to society.
  • Anger: She feels frustration that he exists in such a state.

As Sarah rises to higher levels, her view transforms:

  • Courage: She considers helping him or finding him a shelter.
  • Neutrality: She thinks, “He’s not harming anyone. Live and let live.”
  • Willingness: She feels moved to cheer him up or volunteer.
  • Acceptance: She sees him as someone with a unique life story.
  • Reason: She views him as a reflection of social systems, or even as someone with wisdom beyond material concerns.

The man himself doesn’t change. What changes is Sarah’s perception — a mirror of her own state of mind.

Perceiving a Situation Through Levels of Consciousness

Now imagine Sarah has failed at an important project. At lower levels she feels shame, guilt, sadness, fear, and anger. But as she rises, her perspective shifts:

  • Courage: Failure becomes a chance to learn.
  • Neutrality: She accepts failure as part of life.
  • Willingness: She commits to improving her skills.
  • Acceptance: She understands that failure is part of growth.
  • Reason: She analyzes what went wrong for future success.
  • Peace: She finds calm in knowing every outcome carries wisdom.

The situation remains the same — what changes is her consciousness.

Consciousness Is a Mirror

As David R. Hawkins explained, moving from fear, anger, and pride to love, peace, and enlightenment is moving from darkness to light.

The Rolling Stones’ song Paint It Black illustrates this perfectly — when our inner state is dark, the world appears dark too. But when we raise our level of consciousness, we see light and beauty in the same reality.

"In our interactions with others, we can choose to respond from a place of fear or of love. The first often leads to escalation and conflict, the second to understanding and peace."

— Deepak Chopra

Breaking Through Low States

How do we rise from lower states of consciousness? By becoming aware of them. Once you see your state of mind clearly, you can consciously choose to shift.

Only someone with higher awareness can help another rise — and the stronger we make ourselves, the more we can lift others.

The journey is not about denying darkness, but about consciously moving toward light.
